PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS IMPORT PERFORMANCE SEPTEMBER 2024

 

Electronics imports in September 2024 declined by 1.98% to US$ 2.40 billion, which is 21.18% of the country’s US$ 11.34 billion total commodity imports.

 A.  PH Electronics Imports: (Month-on-Month)

The country’s electronics imports contracted from US$ 2.45 billion in August 2024 to US$ 2.40 billion in September 2024. See Fig. 1.

 

Six (6) sectors shrunk, led by Control and Instrumentation at 20.32%, from US$ 94.18 million to US$ 75.04 million. It was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (15.78%), Office Equipment (7.65%), Communication/Radar (5.54%), Telecommunication (5.40%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (2.71%).

 

Three (3) electronics increased, led by Automotive Electronics at 21.45%, from US$ 3.74 million to US$ 4.55 million. This was followed by Consumer Electronics (11.62%), and Electronic Data Processing (7.67%).

B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)

The electronics imports climbed by 8.93%, from US$ 2.21 billion in September 2023 to US$ 2.40 billion in September 2024, as shown in Fig. 2.

 

Imports for six (6) sectors went up, led by Consumer Electronics at 45.10%, from US$ 96.00 million to US$ 139.29 million, as shown in Table 2. This was followed by Electronic Data Processing (26.70%), Office Equipment (17.05%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (14.22%), Communication/Radar (11.67%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (7.06%).

 

Meanwhile, three (3) sectors declined, namely Control and Instrumentation (21.68%), Automotive Electronics (13.34%), and Telecommunication (6.07%).

C.   PH Electronics Imports (Year-to-Date)

Cumulative electronics imports declined by 0.03%, from US$ 20.111 billion in 2023 to US$ 20.106 billion in 2024. These comprised 21.15% of the total Philippine commodity imports YTD (See Fig. 3).

 

Office Equipment shrunk by 7.52%, from US$ 170.42 million to US$ 157.61 million. This was followed by Semiconductor Components/Devices (5.30%).

 

Meanwhile, seven (7) electronics sectors grew, led by Consumer Electronics at 42.10%, from US$ 755.21 million to US$ 1073.16 million. This was followed by Electronic Data Processing (19.10%), Automotive Electronics (6.12%), Telecommunication (5.47%), Communication/Radar (3.90%), Control and Instrumentation (1.65%), and Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (0.55%). COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (SEPTEMBER 2024)

Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in September 2024 were China (27.15%), South Korea (14.88%), Japan (13.14%), the USA (8.94%), and Taiwan (8.70%). These were likewise the countries of destination in the same order in August 2024.

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were Singapore (6.64%), Hong Kong (4.77%), Malaysia (3.85%), Thailand (2.66%), and Vietnam (2.28%).

Fig. 4 shows the top imported electronics products in September 2024. Laptops including notebooks and subnotebooks under electronic data processing imported from China increased by 47.61%. Meanwhile, Dice and wafers under semiconductor components/devices imported from South Korea decreased by 19.92%.  See Table 3.
