PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS IMPORT PERFORMANCE DECEMBER 2024

 

Electronics imports in December 2024 declined by 14.17% to US$ 2.11 billion, which 

is 21.60% of the country’s US$ 9.79 billion total commodity imports.

 

 A.  PH Electronics Imports: (Month-on-Month)

The country’s electronics imports went down from US$ 2.46 billion in November 2024 to US$ 2.11 billion in December 2024. See Fig. 1.

 

Six (6) sectors shrunk, led by Communication/Radar at 49.41%, from US$ 209.71 million to US$ 106.10 million. This was followed by Consumer Electronics (30.85%), Telecommunication (24.13%), Office Equipment (18.03%), Electronic Data Processing (16.46%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (8.34%).

 

Meanwhile, Automotive Electronics increased by 27.74%, from US$ 3.37 million to US$ 4.31 million. It was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (15.38%) and Control and Instrumentation (9.17%).

B. PH Electronics Imports: (Year-on-Year)

The electronics imports increased by 0.92%, from US$ 2.10 billion in December 2023 to US$ 2.11 billion in December 2024, as shown in Fig. 2.

 

Imports for five (5) sectors rose, led by Control and Instrumentation at 25.03%, from US$ 68.92 million to US$ 86.17 million, as shown in Table 2. This was followed by Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (23.72%), Electronic Data Processing (12.96%), Office Equipment (12.55%), and Telecommunication (8.09%).

 

Meanwhile, four (4) sectors contracted, namely Automotive Electronics (30.65%), Communication/Radar (12.99%), Consumer Electronics (8.04%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (0.79%).

C.   PH Electronics Imports (Year-to-Date)

Cumulative electronics imports rose by 2.75%, from US$ 26.64 billion in 2023 to US$ 27.37 billion in 2024. These comprised 21.48% of the total Philippine commodity imports YTD (See Fig. 3).

 

Six (6) electronics sectors went up, led by Consumer Electronics at 35.95%, from US$ 1.08 billion to US$ 1.46 billion. It was followed by Electronic Data Processing (19.57%), Telecommunication (8.72%), Communication/Radar (6.45%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (2.63%), and Control and Instrumentation (2.03%). Three (3) electronics sectors declined, led by Office Equipment at 11.55%, from US$ 230.13 million to US$ 203.55 million. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (2.96%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (1.78%).

COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN (DECEMBER 2024)

Table 1 shows that the top five (5) countries of origin of electronics imports in December 2024 were China (28.78%), Japan (11.73%), South Korea (11.38%), the USA (10.03%), and Taiwan (9.49%).

The rest of the top ten countries of origin were Singapore (7.15%), Hong Kong (4.96%), Malaysia (4.94%), Thailand (2.37%), and Vietnam (1.87%).

Fig. 4 shows the top imported electronics products in December 2024. Multi-component Integrated Circuits (MCO) imported from Taiwan increased by 30.93%. Meanwhile, Parts and accessories of data processing machines under electronic data processing imported from Hong Kong declined by 43.80%. See Table 3.
