PHILIPPINE ELECTRONICS EXPORT PERFORMANCE AUGUST 2024

 
Electronics exports increased by 8.77% in August 2024 to US$ 3.88 billion, which is 57.49% of the US$ 6.75 billion total Philippine exports.
 

 A.  PH Electronics Exports: (Month-on-Month)

Electronics exports went up from US$ 3.57 billion in July 2024 to US$ 3.88 billion in August 2024, as shown in Fig. 1.

 

Exports in three (3) sectors improved as shown in Table 2. This was led by Semiconductor Components/Devices at 13.46%, from US$ 2.37 million to US$ 2.69 million. It was followed by Consumer Electronics (9.73%), and Electronic Data Processing (6.28%).

 

Medical/Industrial Instrumentation declined by 47.46%, from US$ 50.08 million to US$ 26.31 million. It was followed by Control and Instrumentation (13.29%), Communication/Radar (9.85%), Telecommunication (4.26%), Office Equipment (3.46%), and Automotive Electronics (1.68%).

B. PH Electronics Exports: (Year-on-Year)

The Philippine Electronics exports decrease by 8.13%, from US$ 4.22 billion in August 2023 to US$ 3.88 billion in August 2024, as shown in Fig. 2. 

 

Exports in four (4) sectors contracted, led by Office Equipment at 22.35%, from US$ 30.93 million to US$ 24.01 million. It was followed by Semiconductor Components/Devices (13.82%), Communication/Radar (13.15%), and Control and Instrumentation (1.22%).

 

Meanwhile, Consumer Electronics rose by 68.83%, from US$ 75.18 million to US$ 126.92 million. This was followed by Automotive Electronics (48.20%), Electronic Data Processing (16.75%), Medical/Industrial Instrumentation (10.44%), and Telecommunication (2.86%). Kindly refer to Table 2.

C.  PH Electronics Exports (Year-to-Date)

Year-to-date electronics exports increased by 0.26%, from US$ 29.71 billion in 2023 to US$ 29.79 billion in 2024, which is equivalent to 60.29% of the total Philippine exports. Please see Fig. 3.

 

Exports from six (6) sectors went up from last year’s YTD figures, led by Automotive Electronics at 73.69%, from US$ 25.01 million to US$ 43.44 million. This was followed by Medical Industrial Instrumentation (43.55%), Electronic Data Processing (26.78%), Consumer Electronics (22.72%), Telecommunication (15.67%), and Control and Instrumentation (6.49%). Office Equipment went down by 14.47%, from US$ 233.07 million to US$ 199.35 million. It was followed by Communication/Radar (8.26%), and Semiconductor Components/Devices (3.57%).

COUNTRIES OF DESTINATION (AUGUST 2024)

Table 1 shows the top five (5) export destinations in August 2024, namely, Hong Kong (20.22%), the USA (16.37%), China (8.87%), Japan (6.58%), and Singapore (5.58%).

The other destinations in the top ten were Taiwan (5.21%), Germany (4.81%), the Netherlands (4.59%), Thailand (3.72%), and South Korea (3.49%).

The top exported electronics products in August 2024 are in Fig. 4. Hard disk drives under electronic data processing bound for the USA rose by 72.10%. Meanwhile, Electronic Integrated Circuits – processors and controllers bound for Hong Kong contracted by 6.00%. See Table 4.
